Can you tell us a bit about your education and career background?

I am passionate about working in entrepreneurial start-up environments, especially in the healthcare and biotech industries. My educational background is in Biology.

Why did you choose to study at BrainStation?

BrainStation has a reputation for delivering top-notch digital skills training. Their affordable prices and flexible schedules made my choice an easy one.

What motivated you to start digital skills training?

I am always looking to introduce technical and operational changes that make my team’s day-to-day more efficient. Learning how to code was just one of the many ways that I could accomplish that, and was the main motivator for seeking out additional digital skills training.

What was the highlight of your learning experience?

Meeting and building connections with my classmates. My classmates came from different locations and backgrounds and brought their unique perspectives to class work and discussions.

BrainStation also offers a suite of resources that makes their students feel supported every step of the way. We were always encouraged to seek out one-on-one assistance if we encountered roadblocks.

I happened to have the same instructor for both of my courses, and she was extremely knowledgeable and knew how to make the class engaging and fun.

Was this your first online learning experience?

I had taken a few courses in college that were online, but they were not as structured and engaging as the ones I took through BrainStation. Both courses that I took through BrainStation exceeded my expectations and proved to me that online learning can be just as engaging as in-person learning.

How has your BrainStation experience impacted your career?

Learning how to code has helped me in a number of ways. It has given me a unique perspective and understanding of the more technical aspects of my work. It has also given me the tools needed to conduct data analyses, run reports, and create visualizations.

Did you have a final project? What impact would you say that project has had in your professional development?

The Data Science course includes a project that requires the learner to build a predictive model using a provided dataset. The project itself gives the learner a lot of flexibility in terms of how to approach and solve the problem. It was a very impactful experience being able to present my findings and also listen to what creative approaches other classmates took.

What would you say were the most valuable skills you learned? How have you incorporated those skills into your current role?

Application is more important than technique. Being able to think through complex problems in class helped me rethink how to approach difficult and challenging tasks in my current role.

What advice would you give to professionals considering a BrainStation course?

I would recommend BrainStation to learners who are interested in building their technical skill sets, so speak to a learning advisor if you are considering a BrainStation course or have questions.

I would happily take another course if the opportunity arose.
